So if you’re looking for a guide on the best affordable housing conferences you can join, ExactEstate has shared a top five list below. Keep reading to expand your expertise on low income housing.

Why Attend a Housing Conference?

Whether you’re a property owner or manager, it’s always good to learn the latest innovations and methodologies in the industry. You can take advantage of these new approaches and technologies to make your processes and operations more efficient. You’ll also get to listen to top industry experts talk and dive deeper into the future of housing, property management, and related matters.

Those aren’t the only advantages of going to conferences — the primary reason that many professionals and personalities attend them is to make connections with like-minded individuals. You can expand your network with people in the same fields, allowing you to create mutually beneficial relationships.

Conferences You Shouldn’t Miss

Here are the top housing and property management organizations and their upcoming affordable housing conferences. If you want to learn more about low income housing, you can’t miss them.

1. The National Housing Conference

The National Housing Conference prides itself on a diverse continuum composed of affordable housing advocates and stakeholders. They gather regularly to collaborate on matters regarding affordable housing, sharing research, education, and meaningful dialogues to make a positive change. With the equitable solutions developed during these conferences, the organization is able to slowly realize its vision of “An America where everyone is able to live in a quality, affordable home in a thriving community.”

NHC holds many events throughout the year. Their most recent one was “Catalysts for Change: Reducing the Racial Homeownership Gap,” which focused on the vertical and horizontal alignment of federal resources and programs. This is meant to help close the large margin of homeownership between racial groups in the country.

Their next conference, “Solutions for Affordable Housing,” will happen on December 6, 2022. It will discuss the steps we can take to make homeownership more accessible for everyone. For more information about the upcoming conference, visit NHC’s website today.

2. National Leased Housing Association

The National Leased Housing Association is focused on “the provision and maintenance of quality affordable rental housing for low and moderate-income Americans.” For many decades, this organization has affected change on the country-wide level, leading the way in affordable housing policies and in program and funding decisions. They do the research, make analyses, and provide data-backed arguments and facts that help push forward necessary regulatory and legislative changes for federal housing and tax policy.

Aside from that, the association makes sure to provide timely and accurate housing to educate members. That way, they’ll know the latest program developments and requirements and make adjustments as needed.

As part of this mission to inform and educate, the organization holds regular conferences where leased housing and related matters are discussed in depth. For 2022, they have two upcoming events: the 2022 Fall Seminar will be from October 19 – 20, 2022, in Arlington, Virginia, and the 2023 Fall Seminar will be held from November 2 – 3, 2022, in Washington D.C.

3. The National Association of Residential Property Managers

The National Association of Residential Property Managers, or NARPM, is one of the biggest property managers in the US. Its members are those who specialize in single and small multifamily residential properties. With a focus on providing services, resources, and ongoing educational opportunities to members, the organization helps improve the property management field and real estate industry, by extension.

Since NARPM is composed of many chapters all over the country, there are several events happening annually. Just this June, the organization held the 2022 NARPM Legislative and Educational Conference in Washington D.C.; they touched on matters like affordable housing and what that means for property managers.

The state chapters have their own upcoming events — if you’re in Florida or Texas, keep an eye out for their upcoming conferences in September. You won’t want to miss them! They’re a great way to learn more about the next technologies in property management as well solutions to address housing issues.

4. National Low Income Housing Coalition

The National Low Income Housing Coalition works similarly to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, both nonprofit organizations pushing for socially equitable policies that ensure access to homeownership. This time, the coalition is focused more on people with the lowest incomes so they can buy quality homes in communities of their choice.

The coalition has been around since 1974, and they’ve continued to mobilize, educate, and shape public opinion about affordable housing and low-income families. Since they began, they’ve helped thousands of families by ensuring that existing housing resources and policies are preserved. They also move to enact new policies addressing related issues as they arise.

So far, their events remain online. So if you want to attend a web conference or webinar, you can do so while staying at your office or at home. Their current lineup of webinars includes the following topics:

  • Voter Education (August 8, 2022)
  • Voting While Experiencing Homelessness (August 22, 2022)
  • Ballot Initiatives and Housing (September 6, 2022)

5. National Affordable Housing Management Association

If there’s one conference you wouldn’t want to miss, it’s this. The National Affordable Housing Management Association, or NAHMA, is one of the biggest organizations for property managers. They’re at the forefront of affordable housing management, supporting regulatory and legislative policies to help provide safe housing to everyone, especially vulnerable communities.

NAHMA serves as an important resource for property managers and similar professions, offering information and technical education to all its members. In addition, the organization helps create and foster relationships between the government and the property management industry. These are part of their mission to develop and preserve affordable housing options while preparing housing professionals for changing economic and political landscapes.

October 26 – 28, 2022, the association will hold the NAHMA Biannual Top Issues in Affordable Housing Conference. During the meeting, there will be discussions on the latest policies, developments, and other matters that affect the property management industry. Of course, affordable housing will be at the forefront of these conversations.
